Orifice Meter and Pneumatic Conveyors

Pharmaceutical Engineering,

Orifice Meter

An orifice meter is a device used to measure the flow rate of fluids (liquids or gases) in a pipeline. It operates on the principle of differential pressure measurement. The meter consists of an orifice plate, which is a thin plate with a hole (orifice) in the middle, installed in the flow path. As fluid passes through the orifice, it experiences a drop in pressure. By measuring the pressure difference before and after the orifice, the flow rate can be calculated using established fluid dynamics equations.

Pneumatic Conveyors

Pneumatic conveyors are systems used to transport bulk materials through a pipeline using air or another gas as the conveying medium. These systems are commonly used in industries like food processing, pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing to move powders, granules, or other small particles over distances, both vertically and horizontally. Pneumatic conveyors come in two main types: dilute phase and dense phase. In dilute phase conveying, materials are suspended in the air stream, while in dense phase conveying, materials are pushed through the pipeline in a more concentrated form, often at lower speeds.
